Dear Parent, We really need your help. DO NOT send your child to school if they have been ill the night before or if they have a fever of 100 degrees or above. The County Health Department requires us to not have children in school with fevers, due to the heightened alert of the spread of the flu. Until the flu season is over it might be a good idea to have a back up plan for your child to be taken care of by a friend or relative if you are not able to stay home with your child. Your child must be without a fever of 100 or above for 24 hours, without the use of Motrin or Tylenol, before returning back to school. H1N1 is mostly contagious when the child has a fever. If you take your child to be checked, they will do a test, taking a swab sample from their nose. They can't tell you if it is specifically the Swine Flu, until it has been sent to be tested. The results take 5-6 days. Meanwhile, if they suspect a bad case of flu, they may prescribe a medicine for your child that is also used for those with Swine Flue, just in case. This is why doctors recommend that your child be kept home with a fever of 100 degrees or above. Thank you for helping, Nurse Mary |
